Team games
(excluding Cricket)
Including
- but not limited to - soccer, American
football, rugby, baseball, once-off tennis matches, basketball, hockey, etc.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR PREDICTION:
|
For sports like rugby, soccer, basketball, etc:
Predict
the total points that each team will score:
OR
For a single tennis match:
Predict
how many games each player will win:
(for example: if you think player A will win 6-4/6-4/4-6/6-4)
(Team
= Player)
OR
For baseball game:
Predict
how many runs each team will score:
If
your prediction for a rugby type game is Home Team 29
– 15 Away Team
Then
you are saying …
-
The Home Team will win;
&
-
The Home Team will score
29 points and restrict the Away team to 15 points
If
your prediction for single tennis match is Home Team 22 – 18 Away Team
Then
you are saying …
-
The ‘home player’ will
win; &
-
The ‘home player’ win at
least 22 games vs the 18 games for the ‘away player’,
&
-
The match will go at
least 4 sets.
(for example: if you think player A
will win 6-4/6-4/4-6/6-4)
If
your prediction for baseball game is Home Team 5 – 4 Away Team
Then
you are saying …
-
The Home Team will win;
&
-
The Home Team will score
5 runs throughout the game and restrict the Away team to 4 runs.
How the scoring for this
sport type works:
|
Unique Player Point (“UPP”)
Your
UPP is a percentage (%) displayed as a decimal (i.e. 0.97).
We
calculate how accurately you predicted the points scored by both teams, compared
to other players.
We
first look at your combined difference
, which is the difference between your predicted score for
the Home Team and their actual score, plus (+) the difference
between your predicted score for the Away Team and their actual score.
We
then calculate what percentage (%) your combined difference is of the sum of
differences in your competition (all the players’ differences added together).
We
then deduct that from 100% and display your UPP as a decimal number.
The
smaller your difference, the closer you will be to 100%.
See
example below.
+
Result Point
You
get 1 x Result Point if you predict the right game result (i.e. home win, draw or away win
).
+
Closest point
You
get another 1 point if your combined
difference is the LOWEST of all the players in your competition,
and provided you got a Result Point
.
=
Total Points
Your
Total Points = UPP +
Result Point +
Closest Point
THE PLAYER(S) WITH THE MOST TOTAL POINTS
WINS!
Let’s
look at a rugby game where 3 players predicted the result as follows:
And
the actual result is:
Step 1: Calculate
Unique Player Point (UPP)
Sarah’s
combined difference is 7, which is the 4 points difference between her predicted Home Team score
(25) & the Home Team’s actual score (29) plus (+) the 3
points difference
between her predicted Away Team score (12) & the Away Team’s actual score
(15).
Her
difference was only 18% of the sum of everyone’s differences (7 / 39).
We
deduct the 18% from 100%, to give Sarah a UPP of 82%, which is displayed as 0.82
.
So
far Sarah has the highest UPP and all players can already be ranked regardless
of whether anyone got the result of the game right.
+
Step 2: Award
Result Points (RP)
Each
player that predicted the right result (home win, draw or away win), will be awarded
1 point
.
Sarah
& John predicted a ‘home win
’, so they each get 1 Result Point.
+
Step 3: Calculate
who gets the Closest Point (CP)
Only players who scored a Result Point is
eligible for this.
Because
Sarah’s combined difference is the LOWEST of all the players in the competition, only Sarah is
awarded 1 point
.
If
there were other players with the same lowest combined difference, then
each of them would have been awarded a point.
=
Step 4: Calculate
each player’s Total Points
A
Player’s Total Points = UPP + Result Point +
Closest Point
SARAH WINS AS SHE HAS THE MOST TOTAL
POINTS.
